EyeLevel BQE was born in 2008 as an artist-run project that seeks to offer a forum in the Art and Design fields. Offering an effective documentation of the work we produce, constantly reaching out to find ways of bringing the community closer to the things we see, believe in and do.

2011 has been a year of many changes for everyone. Moving away from our Headquarters at 364 Leonard has fortunately led us to many different opportunities. It has allowed us to collaborate with fellow artists like The They Co. through the project School Nite and The New Museum’s Festival of Ideas. With Gowanus Studio Space and a two-part exhibition: High/LowDeep/Shallow, an inspiring Library project that has turned us into Librarians withColin McMullan and The K.ID.S. Corner Library, as well as the wonderful Day of the Deadcelebration featuring the music of The Williamsburg Salsa Orchestra, put together in conjunction with GLVDK and MYT Diseño.
As we get closer to 2012, we get ready to launch a New Edition for the New Year:EYELEVELFOCUS - Edition IX. We also have been working really hard with TheMexican Cultural Instituteof New York, putting together a very interesting program that will be released next year, so please keep us in your list, and keep us in mind for future collaborations!
Our best wishes for the Holiday Season,
Gabriela Alva C. Eyelevel BQE Co-Founder
This New Edition features a wide range of prints fruit from the diverse projects the Artists on this list where up to this year: silk- screens, box sets, hand-bound books, etchings, and a special and limited edition prints. This carefully picked selection includes a print by Vince Contarino, whose work is concerned with exploring the possibilities of abstraction through drawing, collage, and painting. Prints by Fanny Allié go well with her recurrent subject matter through papier-mâché sculptures of fragmented body parts acting as receptacles for storytelling.
A very well received box set by the Portraits Editor of the Tumblr: Emiliano Granado and his project Time For Print, curated by PHH Fine Art’s Alexandra Nelson.
Tom Smith’snew collages are created by constructing volcanoes at different times of day, through photographs taken at the beach during Miami Basel weekend.
The compositions created by Gabriela Alva evoke the strangeness latent in reality through “Anti-trespassing configurations” exploring different landscapes, particularly drawn to those found in some places in Mexico where the soda bottles covering the rebar of fragmented homes, evidence for the hope of building a second floor.
Nichole Van Beek prints originate from an edition of paintings made as part of a series called “The Subjects,” much of which was included in “The Teak Obsessions,” a book of poetry by Geoffrey Young.
Andrew C. Robinson silkscreen features a collection of labels and text rendered in a loose gestural form in the spirit of the hands of artists such as Dubuffet inspired by the graffiti of the Paris protests in May 1968.
Lisa Iglesia’s“Protectorate” C-Print comes from an extremely detailed graphite drawing consistent to the work she makes, previous examples include a papier-mâché rifle or a hand-made celebration banner establishing threads of renewal, re-historicization and futility weaving throughout.
Colin McMullan’s“Footprint Factory” was created with a set of printing blocks in a shoeshine box. Where a person would hire him, Colin would work for free, then the person would step on each block to press it into the paper, leaving an impression and choosing from a series of images to create a narrative.
